An intimate songwriter series where the voices behind country music's greatest hits share the untold stories that made them.

Marla Cannon-Goodman grew up in Kingston Springs, TN. She grew up surrounded by some of the greatest songwriters in the business, with one of them being her own father, Buddy Cannon. Marla was working as a nurse when her song “The Fool”, recorded by Lee Ann Womack, reached #1 on the country charts. She has had cuts by everyone from Sammy Kershaw, Billy Currington, Blake Shelton, Eric Church, Kenny Chesney, George Strait and many others. Marla has twice more reached #1 status with “Ten Rounds of Jose Cuervo” by Tracy Byrd, and “Cleaning This Gun” by Rodney Atkins. You can also find her name on the Willie Nelson / Merle Haggard duet album “Django And Jimmie”.
Since her first cut by Sammy Kershaw in 1996, Marla has been making country music history of her own with songs recorded by artists such as @georgestrait, @ericchurchmusic, @bccoconutman, @kennych esney, @saraevansmusic and more. Marla’s chart topping hits include @leeannwomack's smash “The Fool,” @tracy.byrd.music’s “Ten Rounds With José Cuervo” and @rodneyatkins’ hit “Cleaning This Gun.”Catch Marla this Wednesday at 7pm CST with @sweetteatrio on Southern Rounds.

Every once in a while, a veteran artist manages to tap into a new creative wellspring, discovers an exciting sound, and the floodgates open. Such was the case for Mando Saenz on his latest release, All My Shame. On this dynamic new album, Saenz fully embraces his pop and classic rock influences for the first time in his career — while still staying true to his Texas songwriting roots. It’s a bold new statement for the Nashville-based artist, and the culmination of his career as a journeyman writer and musician.
“This record was always about making something new as opposed to just being my next record,” Saenz says of the new album, which was produced by former Wilco co-founder and drummer Ken Coomer. “I wanted to take chances creatively with this one, and when Ken fairly soon into the recording process that Ken and I were catching something special that was a departure for me but held true to my artistry.”
Having spent nearly fifteen years as a professional musician, Saenz knows the highs and lows of the songwriter’s life as well as anyone. He’s seen his industry — and adopted hometown — radically transformed during the last decade, as gentrification and the streaming music economy take hold and musical preferences change. Yet you can still find him holding court and playing live at old Nashville haunts like Bobby’s Idle Hour.
Saenz, who grew up in various locales across the US as an Army brat, cut his musical teeth in the Houston alt-country scene of the early aughts, writing in the story-song tradition of Lone Star luminaries like Guy Clark, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Jerry Jeff Walker. His first three solo albums — Watertown (2005), Bucket (2008), and Studebaker (2013) — leaned toward the country-folk stylings of his Texas heroes while showcasing an occasional rock tinge. All My Shame retains the sharp, detailed lyricism of his early albums, while confidently moving into the poppier, more melodic realms of Tom Petty, Big Star, Ron Sexsmith, and indie stalwarts the Shins. “I didn’t realize how many other influences I had that would inform the project until after the fact,” Saenz says.
For this project, Saenz, who was one of Carnival Music’s first artists to land a recording and publishing deal, has worked with several Music City songwriters, penning tunes for the likes of Miranda Lambert, Lee Ann Womack and Aubrie Sellers, among others. Regarding his choice of producer, Saenz had worked with the Grammy-nominated Coomer on several of their own various side projects. He knew Coomer had a knack for taking a song, tweaking it, and then catapulting it to another level. Such is the case with the stark standout track “Cautionary Tale,” a tune Saenz co-wrote with acclaimed singer/songwriter Zach DuBois.

Songwriter and musician Levi Lowrey has co-written hit songs with the Zac Brown Band and has performed extensively with acts including Mumford and Sons, Kid Rock and Alabama. Whether it's a guitar, fiddle or mandolin, Levi has been wowing crowds across the nation for years with his songcraft and musicianship.

Kevin MaCBefore a single note leaves his lips or one chord is strummed fromhis acoustic guitar, Kevin Mac convinces you to love him. His styleis refreshing and honest. His words speak of love, heartache, happiness, and appreciating the small things while his fingers confirmthat each song tells a story of the life he’s lived by way of his guitar.Kevin’s opened for industry heavy hitters Martina McBride, PhilVassar, Darryl Worley and has gotten a nod from Kenney Chesney, who he also opened up for in some 2008 concerts.
Born in King George County, VA, Mac was bred on country/bluegrassmusic and raised in the church. He began his career as a radiopersonality and deejay in Virginia, which led to opportunities for himto perform. The formula is far from complex, Kevin Mac just needs his guitarand an audience—be it two or two thousand. “I’m a simple guy. Ifeed off of the energy from the crowd and I love to tell a story,” saidMac. “There’s nothing that makes me happier; I just try to be a good man, be kind and not take the gift I’ve been given for granted. If Ican make one person smile and forget about their problems then I’vedone something great.”

The Tradition -------
Nashville's songwriter round is one of music's most intimate traditions — a circle of writers, each telling the story behind the song before playing it. No backing band. No staging. Just a guitar, a voice, and the truth of where the song came from.
Southern Rounds brings that tradition to Analog @ The Hutton Hotel — Nashville's finest listening room — featuring the writers behind some of country music's most celebrated recordings.

THE ARTISTS ------
Growing up in Arkansas, Erin Enderlin was drawn to her papaw's record collection — before she even hit kindergarten, she was hooked on country music. Today, Rolling Stone says her songs are "the stuff of country classics — concise, tear-stained, and all too relatable.
"Elton John spotlighted her on his Rocket Hour show. The Country Music Hall of Fame featured her in its American Currents exhibit. A regular on the Grand Ole Opry — 30 appearances and counting — Enderlin has seen 50+ of her songs recorded by Lee Ann Womack, Reba, Willie Nelson, Luke Bryan, and The War and Treaty. She recently co-wrote "Blood in the River" for an upcoming 2026 Amazon Prime series produced by Morgan Freeman and Kevin Costner.
Moose won the Grammy Award for Best Country Song for co-writing "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" — Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett's iconic anthem. As a touring musician he was a core member of Bob Seger's Silver Bullet Band.
As a producer, he co-produced Jamey Johnson's That Lonesome Song — ACM and CMA Song of the Year for "In Color," Grammy-nominated for Album of the Year. The ACM Piano/Keyboard Player of the Year (2015, 2017, 2023), Moose has played on over 40 #1 singles and soundtracks including Pixar's Cars. Inducted into both the Arkansas and Michigan Country Music Halls of Fame.
Multi-instrumentalist Alex Kline is among Nashville's premier No. 1 hit producers and songwriters. She made history as the first woman to solely produce a Mediabase #1 country hit with Tenille Arts' "Somebody Like That."
Nominated for AIMP Nashville Rising Songwriter of the Year and Music Row's Female Songwriter of the Year, her production work spans Tenille Arts, Tigirlily Gold, Harper Grace, Terri Clark, Maggie Rose, Ronnie Dunn, and more. Kline writes for Curb-Word Publishing.
Emerging from the heart of Arkansas, Sofie Smithson is a powerhouse country vocalist and songwriter leading the breakout band Sofie and The New Relics. With a voice reminiscent of Loretta Lynn and the storytelling spark of Emmylou Harris, Sofie blends classic country soul with modern Americana edge.
Reviewers consistently note her ability to connect deeply with audiences — making every performance feel personal and alive.
What Audiences Say
"
I've been to dozens of shows in Nashville. Nothing comes close to the intimacy of Southern Rounds. When the writer tells you where a song came from, you can never hear it the same way again.
